how to make dahl

Ingredients:

  • 1lb split peas
  • 2 tablespoon ground cumin (level)
  • 1 tablespoon salt (level) or salt to taste
  • 1 medium hot pepper or 1/2 no less
  • 1 tablespoon curry powder(level)
  • 6 cloves garlic,  chopped, and divided into 2 equal parts
  • 2 tablespoon oil

Preperation:

  • wash and add peas into a pot
  • add water to pot ,2 inches above peas level (a pressure can be used)
  • stir and allow to boil
  • remove white froth
  • add all ingredients except one portion of garlic and oil,into pot
  • pressure for 5 minutes
  • uncover and stir, add 2 cups of water and allow to boil for 20 minutes , add water if needed,
  • when peas is completely melt, stir remove from heat and cover
  • in a cadle or a deep metal potspoon,add oil and other portion of garlic heat until garlic is dark brown, add to peas , (just lift pot cover enough to let ladle under cover)
  • stir and cover.
  • THIS IS A VERY VERSTILE SAUCE AND CAN BE USED ON A WIDE VARITY OF DISHES
  • wonderful as a soup espically good with curry( except crab curry,) fish and vegatables and rice
