Ingredients:
- 1lb split peas
- 2 tablespoon ground cumin (level)
- 1 tablespoon salt (level) or salt to taste
- 1 medium hot pepper or 1/2 no less
- 1 tablespoon curry powder(level)
- 6 cloves garlic, chopped, and divided into 2 equal parts
- 2 tablespoon oil
Preparation:
- wash and add peas into a pot
- add water to pot, 2 inches above peas level (a pressure can be used)
- stir and allow to boil
- remove white froth
- add all ingredients except one portion of garlic and oil,into pot
- pressure for 5 minutes
- uncover and stir, add 2 cups of water and allow to boil for 20 minutes , add water if needed,
- when peas is completely melt, stir remove from heat and cover
- in a cadle or a deep metal potspoon, add oil and other portion of garlic heat until garlic is dark brown, add to peas , (just lift pot cover enough to let ladle under cover)
- stir and cover.
- THIS IS A VERY VERSATILE SAUCE AND CAN BE USED ON A WIDE VARIETY OF DISHES
- wonderful as a soup especially good with curry( except crab curry,) fish and vegatables and rice
